Privacy Collection Notice
The Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission (the DFSV Commission, we, us or our) is inviting individuals to attend the National Lived Experience Summit on 2 December 2026. The Summit will bring together people with lived experience of domestic, family, and sexual violence, government representatives, service providers, and other stakeholders to support policy development, systems reform and meaningful engagement with people who have lived experience.
Under the Privacy Act 1988, we are required to explain how we collect, use, disclose, store, and manage personal information.
As part of the registration process, we may collect your name (and a pseudonym where appropriate), contact details, state or territory of residence, organisational or network affiliations, information about the capacity in which you wish to attend the Summit, and information relevant to your participation. You may also choose to provide information about your cultural background, disability status, accessibility requirements, gender identity, sexual orientation, community affiliations, and whether you identify as someone with lived or living experience of domestic, family, or sexual violence. Some of this information is sensitive information under the Privacy Act 1988.
Providing sensitive information is voluntary. Questions seeking sensitive information will be clearly identified as optional. You are not required to provide sensitive information to confirm your attendance. However, if you choose not to provide certain information, the DFSV Commission may have less information available when considering diversity and representation across the participant group. If you choose to provide sensitive information, the DFSV Commission will collect, use, and disclose that information for the purposes described in this notice and in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988.
If you do not provide information requested in mandatory fields, the DFSV Commission may be unable to receive your confirmation of attendance or share further information with you.
We ask that you do not include information that could identify another person. This includes information relating to people who have experienced or are experiencing violence, family members, clients, service providers or other third parties. Where references to another person are necessary, please ensure that the information does not reveal their identity.
The DFSV Commission collects this information to ensure a diverse and balanced group of participants, contact applicants regarding the outcome of their application, invite successful applicants to register for the Summit, support event planning and accessibility arrangements, and undertake reporting on participation and representation outcomes.
The DFSV Commission may also prepare de-identified or aggregated reports relating to the EOI process and participant demographics. These reports will not identify individual applicants.
To support delivery of the Summit, the DFSV Commission has engaged Think HQ. Commission staff and authorised Think HQ personnel may access information submitted through the EOI process where necessary to assess applications, contact applicants, seek clarification or additional information, support registration processes, and assist with event planning and logistics. Think HQ is required to handle personal information in accordance with its contractual obligations and applicable privacy requirements. Further information about Think HQ’s privacy handling practices can be found on their website.
The DFSV Commission may also disclose personal information where required or authorised by law, including where disclosure is required by an Australian law, court order, or tribunal order. Other than as described in this notice, the DFSV Commission will not disclose your personal information or publicly identify you as a person with lived experience. Personal information is stored and managed in accordance with applicable Commonwealth privacy, security, and records-management requirements. Access to personal information is restricted to authorised personnel who require access for legitimate business purposes. Records are retained and disposed of in accordance with the Archives Act 1983 and applicable records authorities.
