Purpose and role

The Council gives independent advice to government on the effectiveness of the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 (National Plan).

The Council also advises on new research and evidence. This helps make sure funding goes to programs that are proven to work and create real change.

The Council will play an important role in developing the Second Action Plan under the National Plan.

Membership

There are 10 Council members, chosen to help create real change and work toward a future without gender-based violence.

Ex-officio members

Ex-officio members will also be part of the Council. These members join because of their roles. They include:

  • the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioner
  • the eSafety Commissioner
  • representative from Our Ways Strong Together, the national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak body for ending family, domestic and sexual violence
  • representative from Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS).
