The Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission welcomes today’s launch of Our Ways – Strong Ways – Our Voices: National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Plan to End Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence. The announcement marks an important commitment to acting on community advocacy, leadership and cultural authority in shaping the future of community safety.

The Department of Social Services engaged SNAICC to develop the Plan, guided by the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Safety Steering Committee and in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and governments. Commissioner Micaela Cronin was one of two Commonwealth representatives on at the Steering Committee.

Our Ways – Strong Ways – Our Voices sets a 10year path toward ending domestic, family and sexual violence experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children and strengthening safety for families and communities.

Commissioner Micaela Cronin said that “embedding shared decision making with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, leaders and communities across all elements of implementation will be critical to the success of the Plan,” reiterating Recommendation 16 of the Commission’s Yearly Report 2025.

The Commission looks forward to working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations to strengthen consistent monitoring across government efforts to deliver on the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 and ensure real‑time feedback informs Action Planning processes.

The Commission acknowledges the vital contribution made by the many communities, organisations and individuals involved in shaping Our Ways – Strong Ways – Our Voices, and recognises the community’s commitment to ending violence. We look forward to implementation efforts building on these partnerships.
